Sales – Scientific Instrumentation

Surface Measurement Systems manufactures state-of-the-art laboratory instrumentation for particulate solids characterization. Our products are sold worldwide and are used in leading R&D industrial laboratories as well as government and university environments. We are the technology market leader for our sector and combine innovative scientific instrumentation with scientific excellence.

Our continued growth has created a new opening for an additional Sales person to join an established, successful sales team. This is an opportunity to join a multi-disciplined team environment introducing new products and developing new market opportunities, with the potential to advance at a personal level.

Promoting the full range of SMS products to markets such as pharmaceutical, polymer, chemical, construction materials, packaging, nano-materials, bio/medical materials and defense.

Selling research oriented products to the scientific community across the defined market sectors in industry and academia.

Identifying new markets and applications with commercial benefits for the existing technology.

Organising meetings, seminars, presentations and providing support at exhibitions.

Skills and Experience

4-year college degree in science or engineering, preferably materials science, chemical engineering, chemistry, or a related area.

Knowledge of the scientific instrumentation industry. Ideally, but not essentially, an understanding of materials characterization. This could be thermal methods, chemical spectroscopy, particle characterization, polymer characterization or food characterization. An understanding of physical chemistry would be advantageous.

Proven track record within a scientific sales environment with a minimum of three years successful direct sales experience with high value capital goods.

Self-starter, target-oriented and thriving on success with proven ability to follow through on tasks and plans. The ability to work unsupervised and to demonstrate excellent organizational and time management skills, but at the same time, be a team player.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a confident presentational style; ability to assist the sales team with pre-and post-sales activities such as seminars and trade shows.

A consultative sales approach, with a mature attitude and overall business acumen.

Excellent interpersonal and relationship management skills with a desire to develop personal and professional abilities. Ability to work well with all levels of personnel.
