Substance Abuse Counselor – CADC Certified (Illinois)

The Substance Abuse Treatment Counselor will work in an off-site outpatient setting in the Chicago area.


Qualifications: Certified Counselor (C.A.D.C. certification)

Cultural competency in one or more racial or ethnic cultures preferred.

Reports to: Manager

Positions supervised: None

Responsibilities:

1. To complete a comprehensive client intake assessment to determine appropriateness and eligibility for treatment.

2. To participate in an interdisciplinary team approach to substance abuse treatment and client programming activities.

3. To conduct individual and group counseling sessions, lectures and other educational programming.

4. To attend regular team meetings to seek and provide input regarding all aspects of the individual client’s treatment plan and aftercare.

5. To maintain client files according to Agency and program policy, including file reviews, as directed.

6. To identify and facilitate all appropriate service referrals.

7. To develop appropriate materials and participate, as directed, in program marketing and public relations activities in order to recruit referrals and provide community education.

8. To participate in the Utilization Review and Quality Assurance processes and complete
related paperwork.

9. To document all services provided in the client and/or program records.

10. To participate in all required and in-services, as assigned.

11. To assist in coordinating referrals and performing client orientation.

12. To provide follow-up on client according to program/Agency policy, including related paperwork.

13. To share knowledge with other staff about substance abuse and related issues, as directed.

14. To adapt, develop and produce treatment program materials (written, video, graphic) in conjunction with other team members, that can by understood by the clients.

15. To maintain client confidentiality and observe client rights.

16. To adhere to safety policies and procedures and to report accidents.

17. To adhere to Agency/program policies and procedures.

18. To provide emergency coverage for the program, as directed by the supervisor.

19. To travel between Agency and community facilities, as directed.

20. To provide a model of appropriate dress and social behavior for clients

21. To complete other related duties, as directed by the supervisor

22. To perform outreach activities on behalf of the program and clients.

23. Responsible to obtain 1.A.O.D.A.P.C.A. certification within two (2) years of employment, if not certified.

24. Responsible for maintaining I.A.O.D.A.P.C.A. certification

25. Be mindful of quality issues as they relate to the position and program and participate in activities to improve program quality as needed.

I would welcome information on drug rehab center and this should be a sensitive issue to deals with.

Many substances are known to cause in humans. These substances are cocaine, methadone, heroin, marijuana, alcohol, methamphetamine, oxycontin, nicotine, etc. All these substances are very harmful if taken in excessive amount.
