Field Service Technician - Chicago

Field Service Technician


Summary  

Responsible for the in-house or on-site installation, warranty servicing, maintenance and/or repair of products sold to customers. 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Service product equipment with limited technical or direct supervision
  • Provides consulting assistance to the customer on a variety of issues relative to the operation, set-up and maintenance of the equipment.
  • Supports the “hot line” and responds to technical customer inquiries.
  • Maintain customer confidence through technical expertise, including efficient and effective troubleshooting methods;
  • Maintain detailed records of service visits, including the technical problems encountered and parts employed to correct those problems;
  • Develop technical reports and spare parts kits replacement orders for local office and assigned customers;
  • Report safety problems and repetitive or costly repair problems to appropriate parties.
  • Moderate travel (40%) required.

  • A successful candidate will possess appropriate technical and computer skills to build systems, diagnosis failures and repair systems to send out to customers.
  • Knowledge of procedures for installing, configuring, upgrading, troubleshooting and repairing hardware and peripherals.

 

Education and/or Experience                                                 

 

  • Associates Degree in Electronics Engineering Technology or similar field. Or equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • 2-3 years experience in related field, or equivalent combination of training and/or experience.

 

Language Skills                                              

 

Ability to read a limited number of two- and three-syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers.  Ability to print and speak simple sentences.

 

Mathematical Skills                                                    

 

Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.  Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

 

Reasoning Ability                                           

 

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions.  Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.

 

Computer Skills                                              

 

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Navision ERP System Manufacturing software.
